YES. YOU GOT IT RIGHT.
StyleGenie’s Featured Stylist this August is the PERRY TABORA.
Perry is the famous celebrity stylist behind the looks of popular teen stars like Liza Soberano and Janella Salvador. With his established career in styling, the outfits of her clients were recognized by fashion publications locally and abroad.
Who’s your favorite fashion icon?
Jane Birkin's effortless and chic style. and Audrey Hepburn's tasteful, timeless and classic style.
When did you realize that you wanted to become a stylist?
I initially wanted to be a fashion designer and studied Fashion Design and Merchandising in De La Salle - College of St. Benilde. During this time, I was introduced to the profession when I was hired for a styling job. I realized that it was something that I really enjoyed doing so I began to seriously pursue it.
What were your struggles when you were starting as a stylist?
The most challenging task for a newbie stylist is probably pulling out clothes from brands and designers because they're not familiar with who you are and your work so, more often than not, they'll be hesitant to allow you to pull out clothes from them so there were times when I had to buy the clothes that my clients needed.
We know you’ve had so many achievements in your styling career. What was the most remarkable milestone for you?
The most remarkable milestone for me so far is being featured by Vogue.com last month. I think anyone who works in fashion dreams of their Vogue moment so this was definitely a career highlight for me.
What’s your most favorite look of Liza Soberano that you’ve created?
My top 1 would be her Michael Cinco look for the Star Magic Ball last year where she won Best Dressed.
Next would be the custom Martin Bautista Feathered Frock dress that she wore for the "My Ex and Whys" premiere.
Next would be the Rob Ortega Havana-inspired dress that she wore during one of her ASAP guesting.
All these looks had an understated glamour to it that she and I both liked.
Why do you love styling people?
I love styling foremost because I love fashion, and I love seeing the looks that I create in my head come to fruition. I also like making my clients feel good and confident about how they look.
What’s your advice to women who are finding their personal style?
Don't be afraid to experiment with different trends, because it's through this that you'll find the style that suits you and that you're most comfortable with.
Are you ready for more surprises this Arriba August? Stay tuned as things will be more and more exciting in the coming days.
