The Fusion of Music and Fashion

Music and fashion have always influenced each other. Through time, both have evolved by taking inspiration from each other. And for the avid music and fashion enthusiast (like me!), this season is when we can truly express ourselves. Yep, it’s music festival season! From beach parties to rock concerts, StyleGenies' got your back.

For the indie girl

If you’re into indie music and going to gigs in obscure bars to watch up-and-coming artists, you may opt to wear comfortable clothing pieces. Considering all the standing, jumping, and dancing you’ll be doing all night, you’re going to want to wear something that won’t compromise style for comfort. With that in mind, you can never go wrong with a classic shirt and torn jeans. Don’t forget to bring your jacket! We know it’s going to be a long night.

For the stage diver

For someone who loves to headbang and join the Wall of Death during concerts, then you and I should be best friends LOL. Kidding aside, you know that black is a happy color for us. And wearing band shirts is next to religion for almost-groupies like me and you. Try this on for size: torn-off jean shorts for that classic IDGAF attitude paired with a shirt honoring your favorite artist or maybe a torn-off crop top. As much as possible, don’t bring a bag, or if you really need to, bring the smallest one where only your essentials can fit. Trust me, when the music gets going, you’re not going to want to be slinging your things everywhere.

For the raver girl

Ah, yes. Work hard, party harder. If this is your motto, then you, my friend, will get along well with me. (P.S. In case you didn’t know, I DJ) The EDM community did not embrace PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect) if it weren’t a place to freely express yourself and let loose. And what better way to do that by embracing your inner hubadera? Pair your favorite crop top with a cute pair of shorts. Make a statement with suspenders and don’t be afraid of color! Also, don’t forget to add glitter. Everywhere. You’ll want to shine when the strobe light hits you. :)

For the free spirit

For our Coachella dreams to come true, one must dress accordingly. Take it from the Coachella Queen herself, Vanessa Hudgens. To embody that free spirit vibe, try sporting a maxi dress that moves with the wind. Be bold and complete your look with with a big sun hat, which works both for comfort and style. And don’t forget to bring a blanket! Listening to music under the sun/stars is the best feeling in the world. :)

For the sisterhood (of hip hop)

I can’t rhyme, does it mean I have to do the time? (Hehe see what I did there? No? Oh. Okay.) Anyway, embrace the Kween inside you and show off your curves. And what better way to show them off than by wearing a tracksuit that hugs your body? Feeling a bit shy? Never fear, your trusty denim jacket is here! That’s just my silly way of saying: bring a denim jacket if you want to appear casual while still rocking a sporty look.

For the beach bum

The sun, waves, and the music--literally the best combination ever. Don’t be afraid to show off some skin, you’ve been working on that beach body for months. Wear your favorite swimsuit and cover up with something sheer that’ll give off just the right amount of sexy. ;)

For the theater nerd

As I’ve told you earlier, we’ve got you covered no matter how diverse your music taste is. Try on a monochromatic look for the illusion of height. If you want to create shape, swap your classic jeans for a pair of harem pants. Don’t forget to bring a coat or a scarf because theaters are known to get chilly!
